Shibuya

Shibuya is one of three hotspots for nightlife in Tokyo; with Shinjuku (near Shibuya) and Ginza (of course) being the other two.  Shibuya is one of the 23 special wards of Tokyo, and has an estimated population of only about 200,000 residents.  But, there are many more people there visiting, especially at night, every night!

Largely a commercial and entertainment district, Shibuya has achieved great popularity among young people in the last thirty years.  Shibuya is also famous for its intersection crossing, reportedly the world's busiest, which is located in front of Shibuya Station and uses a simultaneous four-way stop to allow pedestrians to inundate the entire intersection.

Despite the upscale crowds and swinging nightlife, you can still find what us older Americans would call a "Five and Dime."

The city has a lot going on at night.

David and Terry enjoying the sights and sounds.

Lots of companies have a presence in Shibuya.

Three large TV screens mounted on nearby buildings overlook the famous crossing. The Starbucks store overlooking the crossing is reportedly the busiest in the world. The 2003 movie "Lost in Translation" featured a scene at the crossing, as well.

There is an Indian Restaurant that is on the forth floor of one of the buildings.  Excellent food.

Shibuya and Shinjuku are two of the best places to be at night in Tokyo.  Ginza is good as well, but it's expensive and it's not on the Yamonote Line (the main train that circles Tokyo).  So Shibuya and Shinjuku are easy to get to, and easy to find your way home from, especially after exuberant partying!
